goals of april

First off, Happy April!

(Let’s skip the “showers” part and get right to it with the flowers. You don’t mind, do you?)

My tagline for A Side of Simple is “living life one mile, one bite, one prayer at a time.”

But I haven’t mentioned much about the prayer part. It’s a huge part of my life so I should share it here.

In April I’ll be finishing up the season of Lent, as well as  preparing for, and then celebrating Easter. It’s far more than just a time to dress up in pretty skirts and blouses or an excuse to eat more chocolate. It’s a beautiful celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

As I continue to prepare for this celebration, I’ve been setting time aside each day to read Bible passages and reflect on them. I’ve come across a number of them that have really resonated with me lately and that I continue to go to and reflect on. Everyone has their favorite quotes and sayings, so here are a few of my favorite passages.

  • “Each time [God] said, “My Grace is all you need.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9

  • “Be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” — Joshua 1:9

  • “Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.” — Proverbs 3:6

  • If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.” — James 3:13
  •

I think that whatever our beliefs or practices are, though, that we can make some more room in our lives for meditation, reflection, and good deeds. This includes doing things for and being there for not only other people, but yourself.

So here’s to a great month and a goal to focus on good health for yourself and others, mentally, physically, and emotionally.

My goals for April are to finish moving, complete my radiation treatment and enjoy the rest of the month. I love your quotes. Even though I grew up Catholic and don’t practice anymore, I really agree that setting aside reflection, meditation or prayer time (however you refer to it) is so essential to a spiritual life. It’s taken me a good few years to realize that so kudos to you for commiting to your time!

I can’t wait until Easter either! The week leading up to it is always amazing at church!

I love all of those Bible verses, especially the one from Joshua. Now that I’m in college, I’ve taken to memorizing encouraging Bible verses to repeat to myself when I get discouraged or frustrated – it really helps! I’m trying to work on praying more, too. Great blog!
